  8. WordPerfect is a word processing program which runs on a number of
  9. different machines. In the "real world", WordPerfect is the most popular
  10. word processor for IBM and IBM compatible personal computers.

  12. Electronic publications are usually produced using a proprietary piece
  13. of software, like WordPerfect. Many publishers will then strip out the
  14. imbedded control characters (which do things like underline, change
  15. fonts, change margins, etc.) and create an ASCII file for posting to a
  16. network. Some versions of journals, however, may be posted in the original
  17. form with (e.g.) WordPerfect control characters still imbedded. In order to
  18. see them as they were originally produced, you will need to load the file
  19. into WordPerfect. WordPerfect will interpret the imbedded codes correctly,
  20. and display the document as it was originally designed.
